This is an exciting time for UIC Design as we officially launch our independent School of Design, welcome important additions to our world renown faculty, and continue facilities renovations that will align the quality of our studio spaces with that of our academic programs.
This fall we began full implementation of an innovative curriculum which positions UIC Design just where we want to be — at the crossroads of making and thinking.
New Master of Design (MDes) and Bachelor of Design (BDes) degree programs embrace rapidly changing developments in our field and foster disciplinary expertise, which comes from deep engagement in the time-honored traditions of design. UIC Design students are taught fundamental skills in an exciting and rigorous sequence of studio courses; they learn about the history and progress of design in the present, past, and future; they participate in research activities that provide context and meaning for their work; and they are guided in the development of advanced applications and expressions of their ideas.
In many instances ideas that begin in UIC Design classrooms extend beyond the walls of the university to bring about positive change for partnering social and commercial concerns.
