John Massey Exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago

Works of John Massey, Emeritus Professor of UIC Graphic Design, are featured in a current exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago. Be sure to see this remarkable series of twelve posters designed by Massey for Cartón de Venezuela, a subsidiary of Container Corporation of America (CAA), where he served as Director of the CAA Center for Advanced Research in Desgn (CARD) from 1957 to 1977.

The innovative work of CARD is significant in the history of design. Under Massey's leadership the group developed corporate communications for CAA as well as projects in the civic realm.

The Cartón de Venezuela (CV) poster series was designed for use as a calendar for the company's clients. Each poster represents a month of the year with strong lines and bold colors that celebrate CV’s paper products. Shown here are Agosoto and Septiembre. This series is part of a portfolio of Professor Massey's work recently acquired by the Art Institute of Chicago.
