The UIC School of Design invites applications for faculty positions with specialization in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, and Design Research.

Revolving around an intensive studio culture, UIC Design programs simultaneously assert disciplinary expertise and foster interdisciplinary exchange. Graphic Design
UIC Graphic Design places emphasis on the aesthetics, mechanics, and systems of typography in print and digital media. Fostering a global orientation, the graduate program in Graphic Design is delivered in Chicago and in Basel, Switzerland.

Industrial Design
UIC Industrial Design places emphasis on the human experience and in the informed development of products/services of design in the interdisciplinary context of a leading research institution. 

Design Research
The new UIC Bachelor of Design (BDes) degree introduces coursework in methods used to inform and contextualize design process. We seek a faculty colleague to define and advance design research efforts in support of our core programs, and to actively participate in our renowned Interdisciplinary Product Development program.

The UIC School of Design seeks applicants with a demonstrated commitment to design education and practice. Successful candidates will join a distinguished faculty engaged in the delivery of rigorous studio-based curricula that builds from skill-based form-making to interdisciplinary professional practice and includes design history, writing, and research. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a commitment to formal traditions within a context of current/emerging forms of design practice and maintain a strong commitment to a sustained research/practice profile.

Teaching responsibilities include fundamental and advanced undergraduate courses as well as graduate advising and instruction. Administrative responsibilities include committee service within the School, College, and University.

Faculty appointments are open rank and will be filled depending on qualifications at the level of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (full-time tenured or tenure-track); Clinical/Visiting Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (full-time or part-time non tenure-track). Salary will be commensurate with experience. Appointments begin August 2016. 

Terminal degree required (MDes, MFA or equivalent). Demonstrated excellence and distinction through significant record of commissioned and/or self-initiated projects and published/exhibited/awarded works required. College-level teaching experience expected.
