First Year: Foundations

Color Theory

DES170 COLOR THEORY provides an introduction to color aesthetics and systems with emphasis on the definition, replication, and interaction of color across various design media. Through the development of iterative formal studies and applied projects, students are able to recognize, describe, define, and replicate color in analog and digital media. They build familiarity with color systems and they learn the communicative power of color in design.

This studio course is required for students in the School of Design, First-Year Program. Space permitting, it is open as an elective to undergraduate students in the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts.
