Design research meets healthcare in the UIC Clinical Immersion Program

Miiri Kotche, Ph.D Bioengineering and Susan Stirling, Adjunct Associate Professor, Design Research have collaborated on a paper accepted for publication by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and will be presented at the annual conference in June 2017.

This research stems from a 6-week summer program in which they guide bioengineering and medical students through the user-centered design process with the goal of identifying needs and possible healthcare design opportunities. Conducted since 2014, this unique experience helps students avoid the product gap that results from a lack of understanding of the user's needs.
