Sung Jang presents Given_again at Culture Station Seoul 284
Sung Jang, Associate Professor and Chair of Industrial Design, presents his exhibition Given_again at Culture Station Seoul 284 in Seoul, South Korea.
Given_again is a collection of stone stools, exhibited alongside large video installations through a 15ft tall monolith that projects freely moving stones. The collection invites discourse of human engagement with the nature through the act of making, viewed through the lens of traditional Korean perspectives:
“The traditional Korean relationship with nature differs from that of the West and most other cultures. Whereas nature has always been the subject of conquering for the West, the Korean perspective emerges from the idea of symbiosis. Instead of using technology to wield and control the resources from nature, its traditional design takes on the path of appreciating, respecting, and yearning to find the best in nature with the least human intervention.”
