Philip Burton delivers UArts GD50 Keynote Address
Philip Burton, Professor and Chair of UIC Graphic Design, delivered the keynote address at the University of the Arts symposium and celebration, GD50 We Are Here, on September 24, 2016.
GD50 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the UArts Graphic Design program through a collection of exhibitions, events, and an alumni celebration. The daylong symposium on campus in Philadelphia featured Professor Burton, UArts BFA ’68, who (before joining the UIC Design faculty) founded the design program at the University of Houston, and for ten years taught in the Yale University programs in Graphic Design. Burton is also known for his 22-year role as organizer of the Yale Summer Program in Brisaggo, Switzerland, with a faculty that included Armin Hofmann, Richard Sapper, Paul Rand, Wolgang Weingart, and a cast of other design luminaries.
Burton came to Chicago and UIC in 1989 where he has been instrumental in developing one of the nation's leading graphic design programs.
