Brian Anderson’s studio research examines the craft of design, combining traditional and advanced fabrication techniques to investigate material-informed meaning in designed objects and explore the labor and aesthetics of production in the current context of democratized making.
He is currently leading the development of the School’s MDes Preliminary Year Program, which provides immersive design experiences to students with non-design backgrounds. Brian’s design practice, STUDIOBA, is a design / education services, small-batch prototyping and fabrication studio. Previous clients include Chicago Metallic Corporation (now Rockwool Group), The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Johns Hopkins University.
