Daniel Mellis oversees the Print Lab, with its laser and inkjet printers, Risograph, letterpress shop, and a variety of bookbinding equipment. Outside of his UIC responsibilities, he makes artist’s books and other text-based artworks on such topics as the poetry of philosophy, phenomenology of space, built environment, and law.

With Eugene Ostashevsky, he has recently completed an English translation of “Tango with Cows”, a key work of Russian Futurism, that has preserved its typography and materiality as closely as possible. Experimental letterpress and offset printing underpins much of Daniel’s work, which has been shown nationally and internationally.

He has previously served on the board of the Chicago Printers Guild and has given talks at Yale University, New York University, the Palace of the Legion of Honor, and at conferences of the American Printing History Association and the College Book Art Association.
