UIC Design + IIT ID: New to Design

Join us this evening in a joint event with IIT Institute of Design. Design educators Sung Jang and Martin Thaler, co-authors of 101 Things I Learned in Product Design School  (Crown, October 2020), discuss the principles of design, why they’re important, and the design school experience with current and former students in a Zoom conversation. Jang, professor and chair of industrial design at UIC, and Thaler, studio professor at ID, and will tackle the ever-present questions of who and what design is for—as well as why we design—with students in undergraduate (UIC) and graduate (ID) design programs.

Panelists, who include Emmanuella Ben-Eboh (UIC BDes ID 2019) and Spencer Melgreen (UIC ID 2021), will reveal pivotal moments in their design education, the surprising things they have learned in their design programs, and how these lessons apply outside the design world. Join us for an opportunity to get a snapshot of design education from both students and teachers.
