DES120 2D FORM STUDIO provides an introduction to the fundamentals of graphic composition (symbols, images, and letterforms) with emphasis on observation, process, hierarchy, and abstraction. Students in the First Year Program of the School of Design are guided through a series of exercises designed to help make personal, deliberate, and appropriate formal visual decisions. Through iterative exercises in composition, students explore methods of abstract form-making as they gain an understanding of visual hierarchy. Students learn a new language, a vocabulary of things seen rather than spoken, that will guide and inform all future decisions.
This studio course is required for students in the School of Design, First-Year Program. Space permitting, it is open as an elective to undergraduate students in the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts.
